I'm not very happy with the racoons that live in our old growth fir trees. This was my sweet little Mrs. Santa holding a garland and smiling out at the world.
Those little stinkers not only tore her hat off, they pulled all the stuffing out of her head!!! This is worst than the Scarecrow of Oz, whose straw could be replaced when it fell out. Mrs. Santa's head was ripped apart and her hat torn to shreds.
The Hubster informs me it was more likely the squirrels that did the damage, since the polyester fiberfill makes for cozy nests.
Sigh.
Never a dull moment. I went to Lynden today to visit my favorite thrift store, and had to take all of the high roads. The drainage ditches were all overflowing, and most of the houses had waterfront property. It continues to rain, though the threat of the river flooding seems to have subsided.
It amazes me to see you all on the other side of the country suffering from blizzards and cold. It was only a few weeks ago we were in the same situation. I knew we were in for it this winter.
This is Claire. She is the sweetest woman, and has been a friend for several years. She is a talented artist and painted a picture for me last year of Eve and Pippi. Isn't she beautiful? She always wears a hat, and even has one crocheted out of Walmart bags when they used to be teal green. In her younger days, she was the fashion artist for the department store adds. Remember those, when the dresses were sketched instead of photographed?
Well, time to leave for "Kept In Stitches".
Ciao.

We had squirrels damage the Christmas light display hubby does.....and it is virtually impossible to keep them away from things when they set their minds on something. I'm glad the bazaar was such a success and also glad the river doesn't seem like it's going to threaten you now. It is about 20 degrees colder here than it should be...and I wish it would STOP being this way!
Ahhh poor Mrs. Santa - maybe you could make her a new head of straw and see if the squirrels leave her alone.
Oh, What a shame! I am thinking you should stuff Mrs. Santa's head with mothballs next time. I know they don't like those!
they will do the same thing to chickens, you wouldn't believe how many different ways we've secured the little girls home and play yard. I had no idea how vicious they were until I started reading up on chickens.
Guess we all have our place in the world...
Seasons best, Sharyn
I lean toward the squirrels being the culprit- they do filch things that would make good bed linings for their nest!!!Altho Raccoons are pretty inquisitive!!! LOL Is the ground around Mrs. Santa soft enough for incriminating footprints??
Sorry about Mrs Santa!! We had squirrls taking insulation for their nest! We couldn't figure out what was going on until we caught them at it one day. It was old insulation that we were replacing, so we just left it in the yard. We bagged it up and put it in the garage after we discovered them pulling it apart and putting it in their mounths!
Have a Merry Christmas!!
Gene has a good idea! Then you can take some batting or stuffing that you don't need and put it out just for those little critters who need to stay warm. It's been a very cold season so far just about everywhere.
How frustrating. Mrs Santa looks like she has had a rough season!
damn them raccoons, I bet Mr. Santa won't bring them anything...JERKS
My guess goes with the squirrels. Sounds like something they would do.
Your friend is wonderful!
Micki
